Plug.dj: from rooms to “communities”

Plug.dj is rolling out a new design this Saturday. What interests me most about the remake is that the online deejay service is dubbing its rooms “communities”:

“The first thing you’ll notice is the lobby has been redesigned and is now called ‘Communities’. We decided to change the name to reflect how much we value everyone who regularly visits our site. It includes the latest news from the blog on the right-hand side, and now the whole page scrolls. Expect this page to continually improve, including better search, favorite communities, and better ways to discover awesome music and meet cool people.”

A strong sense of organization informs the redesign. Thanks to various box interfaces (see below), hosts of these communities can now more easily deploy supporters in positions of responsibility: co-hosts, managers, resident deejays, and then assign them tasks. There’s a real clarity to the system that I think will encourage collaboration in the plug.dj communities.

plugdjroom_staffI wish my plug.dj hybrid-highbrow classical/jazz room had taken off by now. It is mostly just me on the weekends playing classics and jazz and Broadway tunes. No biggie. Frankly, I’m having a great time picking awesome content from YouTube and Soundcloud by myself. But if you want to become part of my hybrid-highbrow community, shoot me a email here. In any event, I’m going to check out some of the other communities when the redesign kicks in.
