When I traveled Washington, D.C. earlier this year, it was tricky scheduling visits to college radio stations, as it was right around Easter weekend and some students were away. I was pleased to see evidence of the growth of low power FM (LPFM) in the FCC’s latest quarterly update about the number of licensed broadcast stations in the United States. By the end of September, 2015, there were 1,364 licensed LPFM stations, which was 215 more than at the end of June, 2015. (more…)
The FCC released its quarterly list of the total number of licensed broadcast stations. Following the same trend that we’ve seen, the number of licensed stations continues to grow, with the current grand total at 15,470 licensed full power radio stations as of September 30, 2015. (more…)
Today it was announced that Centenary College plans to sell the license for its public radio station WNTI 91.9 FM to University of Pennsylvania for use as another outpost for programming from its Philadelphia-based public radio station WXPN-FM.
