The Mumbles play on Sister Midnight: Wichita public radio, 1987

Sister Midnight

In case you need a refresher on the public/community radio scene in Wichita, Kansas, circa 1987, The Mumbles had a big following in and around the area. Fans did a number of shows about the punk band on KMUW-FM’s legendary Sister Midnight program.

You can listen to them here:

I particularly enjoyed the Elvis imitations, done with charmingly wild abandon on both tracks.

I should note that there is an entire Facebook page dedicated to KMUW-FM after midnight in the 1980s and 1990s. Lots of great newspaper clips and such, like this one:

"After Midnight" disk jockey Cheryl Burke

I am fascinated by all the memorabilia for gone but not forgotten community radio stations and shows now available on archive.org. More intel on this history soon . . .
