Special Events to Mark World Radio Day on February 13

WRD-slogan-calendar-enThe 2nd annual World Radio Day is scheduled to take place in less than two weeks, on February 13, 2013. According to UNESCO’s website, World Radio Day is “a day to celebrate radio as a medium; to improve international cooperation between broadcasters; and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information and freedom of expression over the airwaves.”

If you happen to be in Paris, France on February 13, a special celebration will take place at UNESCO headquarters. Seven international radio stations will broadcast live from the Open UNESCO Hall and a number of panel discussions will take place on topics ranging from youth radio to shortwave to the safety of journalists.

Being a fan of interesting stamps, I’m particularly excited that some special commemorative stamps will be issued on World Radio Day. The United Nations Postal Administration plans to release stamps that portray the history of the United Nations Radio.
