Watford UK community radio focuses on local bands and tweens

A quick YouTube thank you post to the Watford Borough Council from United Kingdom non-profit radio station Vibe 107.6 FM. Earlier this summer the council gave Vibe £2,000 from its Small Grants Fund to go towards new equipment.

Vibe focuses on hip hop and R&B, old skool, and pop. This grant will help unsigned local bands get access to its airwaves via a show called Raw Vibes. The program surveys the “unsigned music scene” in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and North London with interviews and live performances.

On top of that, UK broadcast regulator Ofcom has licensed Watford area community station Silver FM to run through the holidays.

Silver launched out of Bushey Hall School (now Bushey Academy) in 1995 and is recruiting students from nine to 13 years to get involved with the operation. From its About page it appears that the station surfaces with programming from time to time until its next authorization as a Restricted Services License (RSL) radio signal.

Here are some cute photos from the Silver FM history archives:

Watford isn’t that far away from London, actually. Nor is it that distant from Funky SX, which recently got a community license award from Ofcom (I’ve got to check back in on that situation soon).

Anyway, here’s a map of Watford and its surroundings.
