KFOG fans thank station for giving Morning Show a second makeover

KFOG“It quickly became obvious that the show we created wasn’t a good fit for KFOG,” declared KFOG Program Director Dennis Constantine on Wednesday. “So I am here to tell you that we made a mistake. KFOG is about taking risks, and on the downside, sometimes it doesn’t work out.”

As we reported, late last month the station replaced Bill Webster and “Irish Greg” McQuaid with a new KFOG in the Morning program with Greg Gory, Tony Longo, and Melanie Walker.

The new show was hugely panned by listeners.

“It’s been a challenging week of changes for KFOG’s morning show,” Constantine conceded. “I realize that KFOG in the Morning with Tony, Greg and Melanie is different than the show it followed.”

The new, new KFOG Morning Show consists of Tim Jeffreys (formerly of KFOX) and Gory, with Walker chiming in from time to time about entertainment news and such.

Checking in with KFOG’s Facebook page, I’m noting some positive feedback, or at least gratitude that the station PD is listening to the fans:

Okay – it’s not 100% great – it’s not Webster and Greg – but I’ll take Tim – he’s been a favorite of mine for many years. Still need to get rid of Melanie, though.

Thank goodness KFOG is smart enough to know that they have a loyal audiance and their audiance is smart enough to tell KFOG what they want.

Sorry for Tony, but thanks for getting rid of him. I stopped listening to KFOG in the morning until 10 oclock but just happened to still have you on my presets and clicked it on today. Where can I hear this announcement about the change?

Thanks, KFOG, for listening to us!

I cant believe I was lucky enough to hear a business make amends. I felt listened to ( funny radio pun) & respected as a “customer”; It made me hopeful. Integrity in action. Awesome. Inspiring!

Just goes to show that meeting your active listeners half way makes sense. Whether this new team will satisfy Fogheads in the long run is another matter.

We left on vacation and came back to total disaster last weekend! unsure what happened, I have to say that I did the same as some of the other listeners, and just stopped listening in the am…which was the one time of day I could.

The most important thing to take note of is ‘WHO’ your listeners are, and ‘WHY’. The reason KFOG stands out as a station is because it plays good music, not just trendy, regardless of time period, and because the DJs aren’t so hellbent on being obnoxious, outrageous, etc, in order to get themselves attention. What that means is you get a broad range of listeners – many like myself who have been listening since they were just out of college, and 20 yrs later are still here.

You can certainly try to expand your listener base, but not at the expense of what you have established. It will bite you in the end.

So far, I can’t say I’m in love with the new show…while Dred Scott is great to have back, it seems some of your talented ladies have been pushed to the side.

In any case, fyi I have never written an email such as this, but I’m hopeful you get the morning show straightened out quickly with good, talented people that your audience relates to, not screamy, narcissitc ones. thx

So I too stopped listening to the disturbing change in the morning. Where are Webster and Irish Greg now? I miss them!

I turned it on this week a couple of times and think the DJs are better than the first change. You have an intelligent audience who want intelligent radio instead of all the fast talk and fluff that all the other commercial morning shows broadcast.

I will listen occasionally in the a.m. but I am not quite sold on the new folks.

Glad you admitted the error of your ways…

Suzanne Fox , a long long time KFOG listener

Is it too late to bring back Irish Greg and Webster. You heard your listeners and got rid of the disaserious Tony (he was clearly not a good fit) then why not go all the way and bring back Irish Greg and Webster. That’s what you are hearing from your listeners — bring them back!

KFOG morning show has been part of my morning routine for so many years. I was wickedly sadden about the change and can not get used to the new “crew”. Not working, please bring back Webster and Irish Greg. Seriously, there was no reason for the change. I need my morning KFOG show back —please

KFOG morning show has been part of my morning routine for years, cherishing the show along with my morning coffee. Please restore the “crew”, miss them terribly — yes faithful fan indeed.
