Family Radio’s “Open Forum” On Hiatus While Harold Camping Recovers from Stroke

Last week there were reports that Family Radio‘s 50-year-old “Open Forum” program was being cancelled in light of Family Radio founder Harold Camping’s recent stroke on June 9th. In recent months, the religious network’s call-in talk show has been a vehicle for discussions about the predicted May 21, 2011 “Judgment Day” and Rapture.

When I contacted Family Radio last week I was told that the show was not being cancelled and that, instead, previously recorded episodes of the call-in talk show “Open Forum” would be aired on Family Radio.

A statement on Family Radio’s website dated June 21 says, “Mr. Camping has been moved to a Skilled Nursing Facility, where he is undergoing rehabilitation to regain his strength. Mr. and Mrs. Camping greatly appreciate all the cards, letters and flowers they have received, as well as your continuing thoughts and prayers. God has been very merciful.”

When listening to Family Radio this week, a pre-recorded message aired prior to “Open Forum.” The announcement alluded to rumors about the program’s future and stated that during Harold Camping’s rehabilitation, no new episodes would air. It said that the program will resume when he is able to once again host the show and answer listener questions live on the air.

This week Family Radio has been airing episodes of “Open Forum” that were recorded in the weeks following May 21. As you might recall, Camping made a premature goodbye to his “Open Forum” listeners on May 19th, as he expected that it would be his final show since “Judgment Day” and the Rapture were scheduled for May 21. When Judgment Day didn’t pan out as planned, Camping was back on the air for a special “Open Forum” on May 23rd in which he entertained questions from the press and explained that Judgment Day had in fact happened on May 21, but that it had been a spiritual event. He reassured everyone that the end of the world would still occur on October 21, 2011. Between May 24 and June 9, live episodes of Open Forum resumed over Family Radio and following Camping’s June 9th stroke, repeats of the program have aired.

According to a recorded announcement heard on Family Radio yesterday:

“Take a little bit of truth. Mix it with rumors, the media and the Internet and zap, you have a lot of wrong information. A woman called distressed because we were said to be changing our format. Another heard that we were taking features off. Not so, friends.

For example, the hour and a half slot for Open Forum, it’s still ready to go in our program automation. While Mr. Camping is in rehabilitation, we’ll need to insert programming: some teaching, some music, some Bible reading. When Mr. Camping is capable to take calls again, Open Forum will return. Yes, we continue to strive to provide programming that teaches, comforts and challenges. All with the hope of making you consider what you believe and why you believe it. So, don’t listen to too many of the rumors and do remember to pray for us often. Thank you.”

When Family Radio completes its run of post-May 21, 2011 “Open Forum” episodes (today they will air a show recorded on June 2nd), it’s uncertain what programming they will be airing in its place, but it’s clear from their on-air announcement that Family Radio does not perceive the show to have been cancelled.

Family Radio continues down the road of supporting Camping’s false teaching. The network has aired Camping’s opinion that God is DONE with all churches. They have broadcast the nonsense that Satan is in all the churches. The latest heresy as of May 23, 2011 as stated by Camping and for a while posted on the FR website, was that God was done saving people! Can you imagine? What do you get with Family Radio? You get a network trying to survive – it has denied the church, denied salvation, forsaken baptism, the Lord’s supper. The ministry may as well shut down, or else change their network feed to one which still honors Christ.

Harold Camping sounds like he plagiarized Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jehovah Witnesses are a spin-off of the second Adventist which all came from the Millerite movement.American war of 1812 army captain William Miller is ground zero for Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Yes,the “great disappointment” of Oct 22 1844 has never died out… it lives on in the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The central CORE doctrine of the Watchtower, yes the reason the Watchtower came into existence was to declare Jesus second coming in 1914.When the prophecy (derived from William Miller of 1844) failed they said that he came “invisibly”.

Watchtower reckless predictions of the (1914) (1975)….. second coming of Christ hardens skeptics in their unbelief and provides new fodder for cynics to mock the Christian faith.

What Good News! When I heard that announcement…. I was so relieved to hear that Camping may return to the air. Camping is a real gem.

For those Camping-Haters who are so offended by Camping’s Bible Teaching… they should just turn the dial to one of the many luke warm Church-ianity radio stations.

Or, ChurchGoers out there could just stop listening and tune into Trinity TV , Jack Van Impe, Hal Lindsey (both date setters by the way) … or the Masonic Lodge Member headed up 700 Club. Gag. Hack. Gag. Yuck.

As for badmouthing the Jehovah Witnesses… it’s so easy to attack them, but for real…. they are atleast witnessing! Same for the Mormons and Moonies. I mean when was the last time you saw a member of the mainline churches street corner preaching or passing tracts? Their too buy having their picnics and barbques.

A heretic or apostate are just names. Uh, didn’t Jesus say we’re not supposed to call names?

If there is no spiritual or invisible Judgment, then why does the Bible say …. Judgment must begin with the House of God?

The bible is clear that no one will know the day or the time when Christ returns, that much is pretty clear. It (bible) also says that we are saved by grace through faith, lest no one can brag about how they are better or of better faith than anyone else. Couple these two things together and it should keep people from acting out of their own egos and self-righteousness. Only God knows when the end will be, and He does the saving: it is nothing that anyone can earn or deserve. If we take the ego out of Christianity we won’t have to deal with some 400 christian denominations, all the the great divisions in the body or the goofy end of time date predictions. It is all about egos coming before seeking God. Many Children in my church understand these truths better than so many (so-called) adults.

It is July 5th. I thought Open Forum was going off the air? Any info?

I’ve started listining to F.Radio since 2001 to present daily; and i longed for that Jesus would return 5/21/11. But i couldn’t understand the info being taught by Camping on this (too wonderful for me and i just prayed to God that it would be true to save my love ones & me) **but F.Radio was asking for donation at 2pm on 5/21/11 ! ha.ha you’re a money graber Greg@F.radio

Camping said only the CEO of F.Radio could quiet him and He did.

i’m sad that Family Radio & his followers hold Camping to a pedestal. callers call in grabing at straws “maybe that’s why He delayed his coming?” “could it be this/that?” & Family Radio continues to air this proud man’s teachings “The fact is” Camping not on the air YEAH!!! thank you God.

Camping confusing God’s children, then saying no salvation on earth now.

and he defends himself by blaming the churches.

@chasbro777: Family Radio stated that they would be running repeats of all of the remaining post-May 21, 2011 Open Forums up until the final recorded episode from June 9th. After that episode is aired, they will air replacement programming.

Even after Camping’s last failure some of his followers still have to snipe at the Church. Wasting 1 Million $$$ on billboards and then putting the onus on God should be enough but it isn’t. Camping can’t be wrong so God takes the hit. God shutting Harold’s mouth isn’t enough for these deluded souls. Finally when Oct 21st comes and goes the drones will buy what they are fed and continue to mock the Church. Re invisible Judgement’s you simply have to believe it because reality contradicts the afore mentioned, guaranteed, there is no plan B, postulations of HC. For years we heard of flying corpses and shame, shame, shame! Now we here….the dead won’t really feel shame…they are shamed in the eyes of God. I tell you in the name of Jesus the end of the world is not coming on Oct 21st. After the May 21st debacle any rational person would realize they were sold a bill of goods. The May 23rd press conf only highlighted the utter madness of this man. Harold says don’t trust him…..trust the bible….but if you don’t agree with him….you are not elect. See the lie? God wants people to think one thing while He really means the opposite. It the bible it says….God CANNOT lie…. You should not pray for spiritual eyes try using grammar, context, koine and brains….God loves you. Believe it.

Knit pick, Knit pick. Why don’t all you babies grow up and take responsibility for your actions and beliefs? Just remember GOD is still in charge, not you, not me.

  12. Enrique July 14, 2011 at 4:35 pm #

Marianne, says “God in charge” that’s right, that’s why the Family Radio CEO has shut the mouth of the proud/prophet.

like Camping likes to say “the fact is” i’m off the air.

Update: replacement programming started airing in the Open Forum slot this week:

If and when the seninle Harold Camping croaks, will family radio change from the madness that this false prophet has been saying?

  15. Andi Sheth October 23, 2011 at 12:10 am #

@Danny Haszard- I don’t know where you got your information on Jehovah’s Witnesses but I would check your facts someplace other than a website where anyone can post anything they like and claim it as “fact.”

The Watchtower came into existance because the two editors of The Herald (a Biblical magazine) disagreed over the importance of Jesus Christ’s ransom sacrifice. Charles Russel insisted it was fundamental to the Christain belief and Barbour disagreed, so Russel broke off ties, formed The Watchtower, and in the first issue actually spoke of the importance of Jesus’ shed blood for humankind. That’s how The Watchtower came about.

The 1914 belief is that Jesus was installed as King in God’s Kingdom in that year, not that he “invisibally” came back to Earth.

Yes they do preach about the end of the world (the Bible speaks of it too), but they don’t preach the destruction of the Earth, nor do they have a belief like that of the rapture. Their preaching of the end is that someday soon all the wicked ones and those who oppose the true God will be done away with, leaving only God’s people on Earth to enjoy a peaceful relationship with one another as is spoken of in Psalms, Isaiah, and Revelation

Harold camping is an agent of the papacy, in secret he is defending Sunday the day the catholic church blessed against the will of the heavenly Father the day the Creator blessed is the 7th Day Sabbath or the fourth commandment. These fellows as camping will work secretly pretending to be protestants but they are not. The result will be the same taking the eyes of the people from the day of rest blessed at Creation. Mr Camping is nothing more than a Mason 33 or 32 degree, doing the dirty work. just take a look at the Vatican web-site, he is in agreement with many of the doctrines of Catholicism, Immortality of the soul, Sunday sacredness, and eternal punishment. The three favor doctrines of the devil.
