Google TV will include Pandora

Pandora the online radio feature announced today that it will be included in the upcoming Google TV service:

“Today we’re expanding again and we’re thrilled to announce that Pandora is coming to Google TV. Google TV combines the best of the web with the best of TV in one easy to use entertainment experience, giving users access to all of their favorite content from the biggest and brightest screen in their house. Google TV devices will be available in October, including a TV and Blu-Ray player from Sony and a companion box from Logitech.”

Google TV will integrate conventional TV programming with services like Youtube.com, and include a search engine mechanism right on the video screen. Google disclosed today that other partners will include Turner Broadcasting, NBC Universal, and HBO:

“In addition, we’ve partnered with some of the leading premium content providers to bring thousands of movie and TV titles, on-demand, directly to your television. Amazon Video On Demand offers access to over 75,000 titles for rental or purchase, and Netflix will offer the ability to instantly watch unlimited movies and TV shows, anytime, streaming directly to the TV.

In addition, we’ve partnered with some of the leading premium content providers to bring thousands of movie and TV titles, on-demand, directly to your television. Speaking of Youtube, the clip above offers an overview of the current lineup of Google TV apps.

“More than 30% of all radio listening takes place in the home so it is an important place for Pandora to be,” the Pandora statement concludes. “We’re excited to be working with Google to expand our presence in the living room and be sure to look out for Pandora on Google TV when products from Sony and Logitech start shipping this month.”

    This is very exciting. Here in the UK, people are currently debating why we lack the truely local TV and radio that exists in the US. Google TV apps will make local TV and local radio a reality here for the first time allowing searchable online video content.
