Community Radio Barnraising in Hudson, New York this Weekend

Community Radio Barnraising

A few months back we wrote about the plans for the new community radio WGXC. Well, it’s getting closer to reality with this weekend’s flurry of radio activity in Hudson, New York beginning today.

Prometheus Radio Project and WGXC radio are teaming together for a community radio barnraising, during which radio supporters can attend workshops and events. Participants will learn how to build a small transmitter, get schooled in Radio Theater, find out details about the Local Community Radio Act, learn how to do grassroots radio projects within prisons, and will be able to attend how-to sessions related to on-air technique and radio journalism. There will also be musical performances and a sessions geared towards kids.

The event will also be focused on building infrastructure for the new 3,000 watt community radio station WGXC. Registration is required for the event, but if you just want to be a fly on the wall from afar, you can also check out video, Twitter, You Tube and blog highlights from the event all weekend, as well as a live webcast on Saturday, September 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Eastern Time.

Gavin Dahl from Common Frequency will be there on the scene co-presenting two workshops and coordinating all of the NCE construction permit holders. He’s promised to report back to Radio Survivor about the weekend’s festivities and you can look forward to his post early next week.
