College Radio Watch: Awards Season is Upon Us

While I’m full of guilt over some of my delayed college radio station field trip reports; I’m elated that my colleague Paul Riismandel just shared tales from his recent visit to a community radio station in Hawaii. For intrepid radio travelers, there’s nothing quite like setting foot into an unknown station, taking in the sights and sounds, and meeting passionate volunteers and staff members. On this week’s podcast, Paul and guests John Nathan Anderson and David Goren dig into another radio scene: pirate radio in Brooklyn. It was fascinating to hear that “There are more unlicensed pirate radio stations in New York City than licensed stations.”

Read on for this week’s college radio news. In particular, many stations are touting recent accolades, from awards won at the IBS conference, to Hall of Fame inductions, to regional broadcasting association awards. It’s a good reminder that awards can help to garner press for one’s college radio station.
