This April musicians, music industry professionals, and public radio stations all over the United States joined together for Public Radio Music Month. #PRMM is a national campaign focused on showing the impact public radio stations have on listeners. Many popular artists and bands like Andrew Bird, Chairlift, The Decemberists, Death Cab For Cutie, John Mayer MGMT, Passion pit, My Morning Jacket, and Wye Oak have signed a “love note” to public radio; so far there have been over a hundred signatures.
“Dear Public Radio,” the letter begins. “Thank you for taking chances. Thank you for playing our music even when—especially when—it doesn’t sound like everything else on the radio dial.”
Many of the artists and bands signed because they are grateful for being invited to public radio studios to be interviewed, helping them gain exposure. They are also thankful for being introduced to different sorts of music, influencing their work.
PRMM will run until the end of the month, and continue to expose listeners to musicians new and old. Click here to learn more. Stay tuned to branch out your musical tastes!—
