12 Days of Radio Station Signage: Day 2 – Dead Fish

There are a lot of things to worry about when doing a live radio show and dead air is on the top of that list.

Ask any DJ about recurring nightmares and the “dead air” nightmare is extremely common. For me it has completely replaced the cliched “it’s the final exam, and I haven’t been to class all semester” dream. In one of my favorite versions, I actually leave the studio with a close DJ friend and we take off in her car. While driving around, I realize that I have nothing cued and am horrified about the impending dead air. I then wake up in a panic, thankful that it was only a dream.

Any idea where I spotted this dead air warning sign?

WNSQ – We are Non Sequitur.

“What is the sound of dead fish?”

Aha, Dali! It all makes sense now. It’s not WNSQ.
